Description

Waynflete School seeks a College Counselor, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, to work in collaboration with the Director of College Counseling to provide outstanding guidance and support to Upper School students through our four-year comprehensive college counseling program. This is a full-time position that includes serving as an Upper School advisor and an expectation to teach or coach in the winter/spring semester. The College Counselor will also have opportunities to travel to colleges and universities, as well as attend national and regional conferences.

The successful candidate will bring previous experience on a team, relationships in the college admission community, superior communication skills, and a successful experience from the secondary and/or the college level in the areas of counseling and college admission.

The counselor should be empathetic and able to create an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, fostering a student-centered process that prepares students to move to higher education with confidence. The counselor must be comfortable working with a diverse student population and be able to work closely with parents to ensure they understand the process and can support their child’s journey. 

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and maintain counseling relationships with Upper School students navigating the college selection process

  • Write comprehensive letters of recommendation for seniors applying to college

  • Maintain correspondence with Upper School families

  • Meet with college representatives in the fall

  • Co-Host various evening presentations for students and families

  • Partner with the Director of College Counseling to administer standardized testing including the PSAT10/PSAT, Pre-ACT, SAT, and ACT

  • Serve as a homeroom advisor to a small group of students in grades 9-12

A strong work ethic, effective organizational skills and an understanding of and appreciation for teenagers are desirable qualities in any applicant. The college counselor must demonstrate strong writing skills and ideally have experience with MaiaLearning or a similar platform. An advanced degree is preferred.
