Description

Waynflete seeks a Technical Director & Theater Manager beginning in August for the 2026–2027 school year. This full time, 10-month, benefits-eligible position follows the academic calendar and is based on-site at our historic West End campus in Portland, Maine.

The Technical Director & Theater Manager oversees all technical aspects of the Franklin Theater, serving as the primary lead for lighting, sound, and scenic elements for a thriving performing arts program. Responsibilities include teaching courses such as Production Tech and Theater Lab in our Middle and Upper schools, overseeing co-curricular technical activities, and recruiting, training, and managing student stage crews.

We seek candidates who can balance high-level technical production with a passion for student-centered pedagogy. The successful candidate will collaborate with directors to design and execute scenic elements and maintain the theater scene shop with strict adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theater, Theater Arts, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in technical theater management, ideally in an educational setting.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in scenic construction, lighting design (ETC Ion/Eos), and live sound reinforcement.

  • Technology: Proficiency with Google Suite (email, calendars, docs) and Microsoft Office; knowledge of (or ability to learn) Veracross and Magnus.

  • Communication: Excellent writing and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Physical: Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders/scaffolding, and regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds.
