Waynflete seeks an experienced elementary educator beginning with the 2024-2025 school year as a full-time science specialist teacher to teach in a multi-age (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) program. Candidates should possess experience and enthusiasm for general science and engineering teaching and learning, a collaborative and creative spirit, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities include:

Developing and documenting the Lower School Science curriculum, informed by the thematic studies taught in the advisor classrooms, Next Generation Science and Social Justice Standards, the EC-12 Science Curricular Review (2019), the components of STEAM, and in partnership with Lower School classroom teachers and the Science Department Chair.

Utilizing a backward design approach to curriculum development and establishing essential questions and learning targets as part of the EC-12 continuum

Teaching K-5 classes (serve as a consult for the Early Childhood program) aligned with the pedagogical priorities of project-based, place-based, interdisciplinary, and child-centered learning

Collaborate with classroom teachers for thematic units connected to science/engineering

Facilitating differentiated science experiences that engage children in scientific thinking, experimentation, and problem-solving throughout their school day

Creating classroom culture based on Responsive Classroom practices and principles of positive behavior and restorative practices

Crafting formative and summative assessments, in the interest of equity and excellence, to inform data-driven instruction, monitor student progress, and guide trimester reporting

Participating in professional growth activities, leading science-related professional development and initiatives for Lower School, serving on committees as determined by all-school, divisional, and personal goals, and participating in shared weekly duties as part of the Lower School team
